COVID-19: Victorian Suspension Ends, Other States Resume Competition- Updates for All Clubs

MapChart_Map (1).png

Quidditch Australia is pleased to report that with the Covid-19 situation continuing to be well controlled in Australia, almost all states are now able to resume tournament play, albiet with various restrictions appropriate to that state’s local regulations to ensure player safety.

State specific updates can be found below.

All states, clubs, and players are reminded to look over the guidelines for CovidSAFE Play, and remind themselves of their responsibilities towards the safety of themselves, others in the community, and the broader population.

These include the continued enforecement of physical distancing, practising good hand and equipment hygiene, wearing a mask where possible, having a COVIDSafe plan in place that everyone is aware of, keeping good records of attendees for contact tracing, and not attending and getting tested if you experience any symptoms.

There is no room for complacency in a pandemic.

We thank everyone for their patience over the last several weeks.

As players return to sport, and in particular, return to competitive contact trainings and games, there is an elevated risk of injury given the long period of time without playing.

Deadly Sports Plus are hosting an Injury Prevention Forum for Return to Quidditch on Thursday 29th October at 7:30 PM. You can find more information about the event here.

We also recommend organisers and players take a look at the QLD Government’s Return to Play Guide.

As always, new information, updates, and abundant resources can always be found at www.quidditchaustralia.org.covid-19

Updates for NSW:

As has been announced recently by Quidditch NSW, Quidditch Australia and QNSW have decided to drop the bubble system restricting training attendance. Players are now free to join trainings from whatever teams they wish.

NSW has also moved back to Step 4 in the lead up to NQL next weekend. Given that the state is not entirely free of new locally acquired cases, QA and QNSW are working closely together to ensure that this event can be held as safely as possible. Full safety plans will be released in the coming week.

Clubs must still complete a CovidSAFE plan, publish this to their members, and send this to Quidditch Australia if they wish to hold events with more than 20 attendees.

Updates for QLD:

With the recent government announcements on October 16th, restrictions have been lifted on all Local Government Areas, allowing all areas to resume Step 4 restrictions.

This means that teams can host trainings and competiitons as normal, though with appropriate safety measures such as the continued enforcement of physical distancing and other sensible hygiene measures maintained.

We again recommend organisers pay attention to the Return to Sport Guide put together by the QLD government.

Updates for Victoria:

With the Victorian Government having moved to Step 3 Restrictions, quidditch trainings can officially resume! Quidditch Australia and the VQA have decided to initially move to Step 1B restrictions as per the Quidditch Australia Resumption of Play Policy, and anticipate moving to at least Step 2 by the end of November.

Updates for ACT, WA, and SA:

With no to miniminal new cases in these states and no changes in government restrictions, ACT, WA and SA both remain at Step 4 with no particular changes from before, other than the reiteration of the importance of having COVIDSafe plans in place (especially as these are government mandated in SA), and continued practise of common sense hygiene measures.
