About:

If you ever find yourself at Monash University’s Clayton Campus, you might be lucky enough to glimpse of one of Australia’s oldest running Quidditch teams. Though quidditch at Monash began in 2012, the Monash Muggles Quiddtich Team formally made their debut in the Victorian Quidditch Association’s Winter League in June 2013. Comprised of a mix of seasoned and new players, the Muggles never let the ever-changing members of their team slow them down. After winning Victoria’s State Quidditch League, the Victoria Cup, in 2014, the Muggles have gone on to play competitively against Quidditch teams across Australia, emerging victorious in the 2014 Melbourne Mudbash, 2015 Charity Cup and the 2016 Victorian Spring Carnival tournaments.

After placing fifth at QUAFL, Australia’s National Quidditch Championships, in 2015, many doubted the Muggles would be competitive in the coming 2016 season, particularly with a large influx of new and inexperienced players. While the Muggles took some time to find their feet, the team showed its true calibre, they defied expectations, reaching the semi-finals of the 2016 Victoria Cup, and going on to defeat 20 other teams from across Australia to become the QUAFL 2016 Bronze Medallists, ultimately proving that they are a force to be reckoned with. 2017 and 2018 was a rocky period for the Muggles, after the departure of experienced players, placed fourth and fifth both years at for Mudbash and QUAFL, bowling out twice to the Whomping Willows in 2017, and twice again to the University of Sydney’s Unspeakables 2018.

The Muggles bounced back quickly and strongly in 2019, placing first in Victoria Cup, Melbourne Mudbash and QUAFL, to become the 2019 National Champions. The Muggles are looking forward to what 2020 brings to the team, and look forward to what 2020 will entail.

As a team, the Muggles value inclusivity, dedication, and making every aspect of Quidditch as fun as possible. Any new players interested in joining the team are more than welcome to come down to one of the Muggles’ bi-weekly training sessions at the Monash Clayton Campus. Joining the Muggles is one of the best ways to make friends from different Monash courses, to become a part of the vibrant, inclusive and every-growing community that is Victorian and Australian Quidditch, and to learn and develop your quidditch skills.

Without a doubt, the Monash Muggles have an exciting future ahead of them, a future that could involve you.
